Autistic Spectrum Disorder

Respectful, Supportive, and Individualized Care

Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) affects each individual in a unique way. Effective therapy requires an individualized approach that recognizes their strengths, addresses their challenges, and provides a safe and predictable environment.

When working with children sessions may combine play-based interventions, creative activities, and structured skill development to meet each child where they are. Areas of focus often include:

  • Emotional regulation and coping strategies

  • Social communication and relationship-building

  • Reducing anxiety, stress, and sensory overwhelm

  • Developing healthy outlets for self-expression

  • Supporting transitions in school, home, and community settings

Collaboration with caregivers is central to the process, ensuring that strategies used in therapy are reinforced and supported in daily life. This partnership helps children build resilience and achieve meaningful progress over time.

Above all, I maintain a philosophy of respect, patience, and neurodiversity-affirming care, ensuring that every child is supported not only in overcoming challenges but also in being recognized and valued for who they are.

My Story

Over the course of 15 years of working with people I have had many instances to work alongside individuals and their families with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As a Caregiver in Group Homes, a Group Facilitator with Children and Youth, Guardianship Services Social Worker, and most extensively as a Support Worker and Clinical Counsellor.

As a Support Worker through Community Living British Columbia (CLBC). This was a wonderful experience working one on one with individuals to achieve their goals and dreams. With great satisfaction I was able to help many individuals return to school, obtain employment, become more involved in their community, develop friendships and relationships, and become independent to live on their own.

In my nine years of Clinical Practice there have been times where 1/3 of all of my clients are individuals with ASD and their families. I have been able to draw upon my extensive experience working with individuals and families with ASD that lived in various communities to help guide clients toward success.
